Here’s a useful list of questions for proposed installation

With the upcoming in- person consultation event on Wednesday 7th May 2025 (3pm-7pm) at Village Hall, Gattonside, Melrose, TD6 9NP.

Here are some questions you may wish to ask and add to your own queries about the site.

Why here?

Is the site expandable?

Are the existing lines which cross north and south of the site of sufficient grade to take the 42MW output?

Would the developer need to connect to both lines if they have separate supplies?

What would happen if one line suffered a power cut?

Would a noisy backup generator be required, and would it need sound screening?

Would the batteries shut down and cool automatically if there was a power cut?

Can the cooling of hot batteries be effected automatically?

How will the preservation of the SUW hedge line and trees be ensured?

How will the visual impact of the units be managed, including the colour of the battery housings, security fencing, lighting, and camera arrangements?

How will the construction impact and associated works be managed?

How will the units be delivered to the site?

What are the concerns regarding access to the site?

How will the track base for maintenance and inspection of the BESS be constructed?

Would the Fire services require two points of access, and how would they service the site?

How would the concrete base be pumped to the site?

How will noise from the fans be managed to avoid nuisance to neighbours?

What measures will be taken to screen noise at the source?

How will the concerns and possible solutions be communicated to SBC at the earliest opportunity?

How will the issues be coordinated and agreed upon to avoid contradictory viewpoints?

How can you make sure that the concerns raised become part of the planning conditions if the project gets approved?
